Lesson 10 : Principles Of Planning - II

Furniture Requirements

The size and shape of rooms must be planned with due thought to the furniture to be placed in it. The type, the hposition, size and the number of furniture required influences the interior ambience. The furniture layout must be planned in paper in respect to size and placement of doors, windows and built-in forms in the room. Considerable importance is to be paid, but most often it is neglected.

The best way to decide the size of rooms is to identify the furniture requirements and place them to scale in plan or imagine the positions and define the space needs, position and location of doors and windows.

Bed rooms must be designed with due thought and attention to the prospective positions of beds to avoid cramped effect and exposed to view.

Beds should not come in the way of opening of wardrobe door.
Major and minor circulation path should be defined to connect furniture units within the room.
Too small rooms with big units of furniture without adequate leg room or circulation space in hindrances to the utility.
