Managing The Supply Chain

Supply Chain Management deals with complete cycle of materials as they flow from suppliers to production to warehousing to distribution to the customer. They have to be enhanced and can be done by

  1. Postponement – Postponement means delaying customization to the product as long as possible in production proceeds. This gives time for the manufacturer to modify the produced for better.
  2. Channel assembly – it is the variation of postponement. It sends individual components rather than finished products to the distributor. The distributor assembles that and ships the product to the customers
  3. Dropshipping and special packaging have the supplier ships directly to the end consumer, rather than to a seller. It saves both times to shipping costs.
  4. Electronic ordering and funds transfer – transactions between firms are increasingly done via electronic data interchange.
BENCHMARK TECHNIQUE: these firms have driven down costs, lead times, late deliveries and shortage while improving quality
