Empire

A type of dress or top where the waist line is raised above the natural waistline, sometimes as high as right below the bust.

This dress has a waist line which is raised directly beneath the bust, with a skirt that flares slightly from the raised-waist down. This dress is particularly recommended for petite women who do not have a defined waist, but is not recommended for women with a pronounced hourglass shape. In the picture, the waistline is right below the bust.
