Threads for embroidery

There are a variety of threads available in the market for different kinds of embroidery. The selection of thread depends on the end product to be made. Thread may be of cotton, silk, wool or synthetic material, which differ in fineness and lustre. An embroidery thread, known as mercerized-cotton thread, is excellent for the satin stitch. It is less expensive, more durable and easy to work with. Some embroidery threads are also available in more than one ply. They can be pulled out separately and used as required. One ply will give very fine embroidery while 6 ply gives bold embroidery. Metallic threads are also available which can be used in embroidery for creating emphasis in design. Now-a-days double coloured threads, multi-coloured threads are also available for creating excellent effects in embroidery.
