Lesson 06: Chain Organizations

Chain Organizations

Chains that deal in fashion merchandise may be national, regional, or local. They may be department store chains, with only a portion of assortments devoted to fashion goods. They may be mass-merchandise chains that emphasize the quality and durability of their fashion goods and distribute impressive quantities of merchandise. Or they may be general-merchandise chains known for selling fashion goods at low prices. There are specialty store chains that deal exclusively with fashion merchandise at high prices or at discount prices. There are also apparel specialty chains that focus on a special size, age, or income group.

Outstanding examples of department store chains in US are

  • JC Penney
  • Sears
  • Roebuck
  • The Gap
  • K-Mart
