Other Forms of Retailing

Door to Door:
  • Modern versions of the early peddlers are the direct selling retailers who operate with out store.
  • Sells merchandise by contacting customers through either door to door approaches or some form of in home party plan
  • It is not new in fashion field
  • It includes many different types products
  • Working commission, a sales person calls on a customer at home and attempts to make the sale.
Party plan:
  • In this plan selling depends on the company’s representative getting a local woman to organize a party of her/his and neighbors, at which the sales person presents the company’s merchandise.
  • The hostess receives a gift , usually by a sales person
Online computer services:
  • Computer technologies permit consumers to use internet and online services.
  • As Growing number of consumers have home computers, this will be a growing medium for the fashion industry.
  • It has limitations like consumer can see one shop at a time
  • Making comparison shopping difficult
  • Advantages like immediate update of products
  • Provide a chance to order directly via computer.
  • It is important frontier of retailing
Vending Machines:
  • This is an automated piece of equipment wherein customers can drop in the money in machine and acquire the products.
