Introduction

India is the country where electronic media are growing very fast. In the field of television, Doordarshan had monopoly till 1990.But from 1991 onwards private satellite channels heralded a new era in the field of electronic media in India. Similarly All India Radio maintained monopoly over radio programmes for a long time and still continues to be one of the largest radio networks in the world. In radio broadcasting also significant changes have taken place after the establishment of various private F.M.radio channels and satellite radio as well as campus and community radio. In this lesson, we will learn about Doordarshan, All India Radio and about the growth of private television and radio channels.
