Criteria for Good Programme Planning
A good programme meets the needs and interests of the majority of the people and motivates them to make necessary changes. To be effective, every programme must start with the people and the present situation as they are and then build towards the ultimate goal of better family living. For a good programme planning, it is very essential for the extension workers to become oriented/ well-acquainted to the job. Therefore, criterias are required for good programme planning.
These are listed as:
Describe the particular situation and then plan the programme on it.
Consult block staff, district extension staff and available government reports.
Study recommendations of research stations
Consult the people.
Consult local institutions like the panchayat, cooperative, school and other organizations like rural youth club,mahila mandal, farmer’s forum and young farmers association.
Keep in view the state and national situations affecting life.
Select problems and fix priorities based on felt needs.
All problems cannot be tackled at one time.
Problems should be related to the family, community field and block situation.
Problems should be arrived at democratically through participation of village people, the entire extension staff and others who can contribute to the programme.
Problems should be those which are most felt and of greatest concern and need of people.
Objectives and goals should offer satisfaction
Objectives should be understood by those for whom intended.
Satisfaction must result from the attainment of objectives.
Objectives shall be stated in terms that can be understood and measured.
Objectives should be agreed upon by the people who are to attain them.
