Lesson 18 : Status Of Women In Rural Families

Introduction

Rural women are the backbone of agricultural workforce and play a significant role. But worldwide her hard work has mostly been unpaid. She does the most tedious and back-breaking tasks in agriculture, animal husbandry and homes. The social status of rural women refers to their status in the household, on the family farm, in the family and other primary groups, as well as in rural public life. In general, the following processes affect the status of rural women:

- Industrialization,
- Modernization,
- Deagrarization,
- Migration,
- Urbanization.

However, other processes affect this status as well, including traditional concepts and beliefs related to the position and role of women in the households and rural communities as the primary location for working and living.
