Learning Objectives
This unit describes the digestion and absorption of carbohydrate in food. It also explains various biochemical processes responsible for the formation and breakdown of glycogen in liver and muscle. The reactions involving glycolytic and citric acid cycle, biological oxidation and energy production are also provided. The synthesis of carbohydrates from non carbohydrate sources like amino acids and fatty acids in living organisms are also explained. |
