Unit 8 - Brackish and marine water fish farms
A reliable water supply is perhaps the single most important factor to be considered when selecting a site for an aquaculture. Water of proper quantity and quality should be available in accordance with the cycles of aqua cultural operation. Therefore when selecting an aquaculture sites the water supply must be thoroughly investigated. Although well water is usually the preferred source of water but it is uneconomical especially when water is pumped from deep in the ground. Depending upon the nature of occurrence water sources can be classified in to following two groups,
- Freshwater Resources
- Brackishwater Resources
