Protocol
Protocol :
● Take fully ripe female and weigh
● Dissect out the ovary (both lobes) and weigh
● Preserve the ovary in 4% formalin solution
● On hardening, take a sample of known weight (about 0.5 – 1.0 g) of the anterior, middle and posterior portions of the ovary, tease out ova with foreceps and count all the ova/eggs in the sample
● Obtain the total numbers of eggs (absolute fecundity) by multiplying the no. of eggs with total weight of ovary and dividing with weight of sample
● Similarly, calculate the relative fecundity by dividing absolute fecundity with total weight of ovary or weight of fish
