Visit to the State Department of Fisheries

The State Department of Fisheries is vested with the responsibility of promotion of fisheries in the state. It serves as the line department for the development of fisheries. Extension is one of the major activities of the State Fisheries Department. The students are expected to observe the following to understand extension activities carried out by the state department of fisheries.

1. Administrative structure of the Dept.

2. Details about extension wing of the Dept.

3. Different extension programmes carried out by the Dept.

4. Different welfare schemes implemented by the Dept.

5. Extension approaches adopted by the Dept.

6. Involvement of local leaders in the extension programmes.

7. Assessment of feedback for the technologies disseminated.

8. Linkages with fisheries research organizations.

9. Regulatory mechanism played by the state dept. of fisheries.

Based on the observation made, the students are required to analyze the role played by the state dept of fisheries for promoting fisheries, the strength and weakness of the system and suggestions for improving their extension programmes.
