Visit to an NGO to study their extension works and approaches in fisheries
Non Government Organizations (NGOs) can complement govt. agencies in extension services. NGOs function on the principle that voluntary action can build a society. NGOs have a long history of service and dedication and they work with specific objectives and mission. They play a crucial role in mobilizing and motivating the rural power to take advantage of the on-going projects through their meaningful participation. NGOs play a catalytic role in the implementation of development programmes in many fields related to rural development. They organize, mobilize and utilize resources available within and outside the community for its development. Since they have very good net working system at the grass root levels, they can ensure community participation in such activities. They undertake community development programmes in liaison with govt. by a net work of self help groups, social institutions and trained extension functionaries. The students may be taken to a local NGO office to know about their role in community development. The students are expected to learn how extension programmes are conceived, planned and implemented at the field level by the NGO. |
