5.2.1. Introduction

Trawl is a bag like net dragged on the sea bottom or through water column to capture fishes. Otter boards attached by long cables, keep the mouth of the net open horizontally during operation. Vertical opening of the net is achieved by floats and sinkers in the head and foot ropes respectively. The fishes are retained in the codend at the back of the net that consists of strong meshes.
