Principle

PRINCIPLE

  • By the addition of concentrated H2SO4 to a feed sample and digesting it with a suitable catalyst, all the organic nutrients are split up in to their component parts. Nitrogen in the feed stuff is liberated as free ammonia and unites with H2SO4 to form a ammonium sulphate.
  • This compound is reacted with excess of alkali and distilled. Free ammonia liberated is received in known amount of standard acid. After complete distillation, by back titrating this standard acid with standard alkali the amount of acid reacted with free NH3 is found.
  • From this nitrogen content of the feed is calculated and the protein is found out.
