INTRODUCTION

• The fat content of the feed is estimated as ether extract. As the extraction solvent used is petroleum ether, the estimation is also referred to ether extract.
• It could also be referred to as crude fat estimation, because lipids /fats along with substances that are soluble in organic solvents could also be extracted. They include waxes, pigments, sterols and fat soluble vitamins.
