MYIASIS - GENETIC CONTROL

• Female killing (FK) system or Genetically impaired female technique (GIFT),
  • Genetic modification of male flies results in mutations, which affect eye colour
  • When wild females mate with these genetically altered males a large percentage of the  progeny are homozygous for one or more of eye pigment mutations
  • Its expressed as white or yellow eye colour
  • These female flies lack the light filtering pigments and hence are blind in daylight such blind females die rapidly in wild
