IMMUNIZATION SCHEDULES

  • A test bleed should be taken 1-3 weeks after the second injection to measure the titre value of the antibody. If titre is poor, it is possible to re-immunize the animal; however, if the first and second injections have been executed correctly, third is unlikely to improve results since the problem is probably due to the nature of the injected antigen.
  • The final booster is essential and the about of antigen injected should be very small. The reason is that a small amount of antigen will only activate the high-affinity memory B cell clones. Thus, the resultant antiserum will be rich in the specific antibody against the given antigen.
