HYGIENIC REQUIREMENTS OF WATER

It is always not possible to adopt the same chemical and microbiological standards that recommended for water to be used by human beings; still water to be used for livestock and poultry should be pure and wholesome.

  • It must be free from all toxic substances such as arsenic, lead, cyanides, mercury and fluorides
  • The mineral constituents such as chlorides and sulphates should be present in levels which are conducive for good health
  • It should be free from objectionable taste, and odour.
  • All steps should be taken to protect the water supply source from faecal, manorial and sewage pollutions
  • Water to be used in livestock and dairy farms where human foods are processed, water should be of the same standard suggested for human.
