EXERCISE-8: CHEMICAL EVALUATION OF WATER QUALITY-METAL

Qualitative Chemical Examination of water for Metallic Impurities

  • Drinking water is usually contaminated with metallic impurities such as iron, copper, zinc, lead, etc. The source for such impurities may be soil and other mineral sources or more commonly the pipelines and distribution systems.
  • Some of these impurities such as iron or copper may only cause mild affections like gastrointestinal disturbances.
  • Certain metals such as lead or arsenic may cause serious health hazard. Thus it is essential to analyse water for metallic impurities.
