PRESERVATION AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

• This is a very old method of semen preservation.

In areas where refrigeration facility is poor, semen may be stored at ambient temperature.

• The keeping quality of semen is poor at room temperature due to the faster utilisation of nutrients by the spermatozoa and also due to bacterial multiplication.
• So obviously it is mandate to add sufficient antibiotic to control the multiplication of bacteria.
• Various workers have evolved different extenders for the preservation of semen at room temperature (18 – 25^oC). Some of them are as follows.
