Clinical Signs

CLINICAL SIGNS

  • Retention of fetal membranes is frequently observed
  • The animal exhibits anorexia and dullness
  • Pulse is rapid and weak.
  • Body temperature is elevated to 40 0 C in early phases and in advanced stages the temperature may be either normal or sub –normal
  • Respiration is rapid
  • The eyes may be sunken, hair coat rough and rapid loss of body weight
  • There is marked atony of the digestive tract and hence the faeces may be hard ,firm black,fetid or sometimes liquid.
  • A drop in milk yield
  • The cervix remains open and there is usually a reddish watery, fetid discharge from the vulva. The uterine contents are toxic and fetid.
  • Peritonitis may be present
  • Peritonitis may be followed by uterine and ovarian adhesions
  • Pneumonia, poly arthiritis, endocarditis and laminitis may be present.
