On ice or Cell culture medium containing antibiotics & fetal bovine serum

  • Live animal: Blood in an anticoagulent at peak of temperature, paired serum sample.

  • In dead animal :Spleen, liver,bone marrow and mesenteric lymph node on ice.

  • Live birds: Tracheal, conjunctival, throat and cloacal swab, dropping on ice. Serum
  • Dead birds: Oral nasal swab, Lung, Kidneys, intestinal contents, proventriculus, spleen, liver, heart& brain. Serum from affected or convalescent birds.

Isotonic PBS with antibiotics or 50% glycerol saline.
