Notchers

APPAREL MANUFACTURING – II 3(3+0)

Lesson 14 : Cutting - Notchers

Notchers

Many garments parts require notches to be cut into the edges to enable alignment during sewing with other garment parts. The previous four methods of cutting can be used to cut notches, but accuracy depends on the operator. Specialized notching equipment provides greater accuracy with the cut edge of consistent depth at a right angle to the edge.

The variation in this type is a hot Notchers (fig1), incorporates a heating element in order that the blade may scorch the fibers adjacent to the notch in order to prevent fraying. This cannot be used with thermoplastic fibers or certain unlined garments. One fabric requiring it may be loosely woven tweed.
