Suggestions for making effective charts are

  1. Keep them simple, develop only one idea
  2. Make as few comparisons as possible
  3. Allow plenty of space
  4. Maintain logical order in presenting
  5. Prepare charts pleasing to view
  6. Use symbols, words or colours to explain the chart
  7. Use lines and bars in only one dimension
  8. Compare like units and avoid comparing unrelated units
