(d) Phytase based fish feeds
Practical 2- Preparation of formulated feeds using locally available feed ingredients
(d) Phytase based fish feeds All plant feed ingredients contain natural phosphorus, which is only 30 % available, and the rest 70 % is in the form of phytate phosphorus. Fish lacks enzyme phytase and thus phosphorus is excreted in the feacal matter without being absorbed by the fish. It is the enzyme phytase produced by microorganisms that breaks down phosphorus and phytic acid bond to release phosphorus, the phosphorus thus release causes pollution of water their by deteriorating the aesthetic value of pond thus it is essential to add phytase to the fish feeds so that the phosphorus is taken up by the fish and reducing the content in feacal matter.
