Post-stocking management
Post-stocking management :
● After stocking, feed the spawn with a mixture of rice bran and oil cake (ground nut or coconut or mustard) at a ratio of 2 :1
● Maintain feeding rates of 200, 300 and 400% of the body weight of spawn during the first 5 days, 6th - 10th day and 11th -15th day after stocking, respectively
● Broadcast the powdered feed mixture on the surface of water or feed as a thick paste (dough) in the form of small balls.
● The stocked seed reaches 25-30 mm (0.25 – 0.5 g) in 20-30 days, after which thinning of population is done to allow them to grow up to fingerlings.
● Take care to maintain water quality by periodic manuring
● Prevent algal blooms by water exchange
● Control parasites and pathogens by the application of lime during pond preparation
● Control bird predation, particularly pond crow by tying old gill net/plastic tape across the pond and scaring them with a gun.
