2.4.2 Cataloguing

2.4.2 Cataloguing

Murugan Sir Notes Added

Research collections should be housed at research libraries, in fire proof buildings that are reasonably dust proof.  All the specimens of a particular species collected at a given locality or by one expedition are entered in the catalogue.  This greatly facilitates the subsequent retrieval or distributional data and the preparation of faunistic analyses.  Cataloguing should be done after identifying the species.  Catalogue entries of fishes must contain the following items:

  1. Consecutive museum number
  2. Original field number
  3. Scientific name
  4. Sex
  5. Exact locality
  6. Date of collection
  7. Name of collector
  8. Method of capture
  9. Depth of capture
  10. Remarks
