Solutions

Solutions

1. Percent solution (w/v)

·         One percent solution of a substance contains one gram of the substance in 100ml of the solvent.

·         If v/v is given, it means 1 ml in 100ml of solvent.

·         %( w/v): The weight in grams of a solute per 100ml of solution.

·         %( w/v): The weight in grams of a solute per 100ml of solution.

2. Molar solution (M)

·         One molar solution of a substance contains one mole or one-gram molecular weight of the substance in one liter of solution.

·         E.g.1 M NaOH in one solution .

·         Likewise, one milli molar solution of a substance contains one-milligram molecular weight of the substance in one liter of solution.

·         E.g.1mm NaOH contains 40mg NaOH in one liter of solution.

3. Normal solution (N)

·         One normal solution of a substance contains one equivalent or one gram equivalent weight of the substance in one liter of solution (i.e., molecular weight divided by the hydrogen equivalent of the substance).

·          E.g. 1N H2SO4 contains 49g H2SO4 in one liter solution
