Procedure

Weigh accurately 10g of the minced sample.

Homogenise with a mixture of 20ml of chloroform and 10ml of methanol.

Add 10ml of chloroform to the above mixture and blend for 30 seconds.

Add 10ml of distilled water and filter the homogenate through Whatman No.1 filter paper.

Transfer the filtrate into a separating funnel and allow to separate

Separate the chloroform layer into a previously weighed beaker.

Evaporate over a water bath to remove chloroform from the beaker.

Dry the beaker in a hot air oven at 100ยบC for 30 minutes and weigh.
