2.1.6 Control unit

This unit coordinates the activities of all the other units in the system. It s main functions are:

• to control the transfer of data and information between various units; and
• to initiate appropriate actions by the arithmetic unit.

The program provides the basic control instructions. Conceptually, the control unit fetches instruct ions from the memory, decodes them, and directs various units to perform the specified tasks.
