Procedure
Fish specimen should be collected from the fish landing centre and brought to the laboratory. The weight of the fish specimens were measured using balance and length with the help of a scale on a measuring board. After taking measurement, the specimen should be dissected out ventrally through the abdomen with the help of a fine scissors without injuring any visceral organs. The fish ovary may be separated carefully and its weight could be measured. 5 subsamples taken from different parts of the ovary and each subsample could be weighed separately upto nearest milligram. The ovary samples should be taken in the petridish and water may be added drop by drop to separate the eggs. Now the number of eggs can easily be counted. The calculation of fecundity can be calculated by Gravimetric method as follows. |
