Learning Objectives

This unit describes the process of digestion and absorption of lipids. The action of lipase on triglycerides and phospholipase on phospholipids are explained.  Formation of chylomicron and other lipoproteins for aiding absorption is also described. The reactions involved in the degradation of fat for energy production, the utilisation of absorbed fat components for the synthesis of fatty acids and other lipids are also explained in detail.
