3.1.Introduction
Unit-3 Construction of twines
3.1.Introduction
A wide variety of materials ranging from natural fibres, wood and metal to synthetics are used in the construction of different fishing gears. Most of the widely used fishing gears such as trawls, purse seines and gillnets make extensive use of netting in the process of capture and for retraining the catch. Due to their superior strength properties, service life and rot resistance, man-made synthetic fibres are almost exclusively used for construction of fishing twine, ropes and netting in recent times.
