13.2.Definition of Coastal Zone
  • That part of the land affected by its proximity to the sea and that part of the ocean affected by its proximity to the land.
  • The coastal zone is the interface between the land and the sea and may extend inland and seaward to a variable extent depending upon the objectives and needs of management (FAO).
  • Coastal zone is the interface of land and sea. The near shore productive regions of the sea and the shore adjacent land area up to which human activities relate to both land and sea.
