Two-way radiotelephone Apparatus

Normally known as a walkie-talkie the two ways radiotelephone must be provided for communication between survival craft, a minimum of 3 must be provided on each ship. It works by radio wave to communicate others walkie-talkie within 1.5km.

Recognize type of emergency signal on board

Sound or sign emergency signal difference for each others. It depends on type of emergency happen.

Fire Signal:

Means a fire happen in ship. The alarm will sound continuously not less than 7 seconds to announce the accident and any safety step need to be taken.

Oil spill response pollution, abandon ship and pirates signal:

Mean danger situation happen on ship. The alarm will sound 7 times short or more and followed by long sound.

Man Overboard:

Consist of 3 long sounds (represent O in Morse code) and repeated not less than 4 times.

Boat Station Signal:

Sounds by 1 short and followed by 1 long alarm continuously (represent A in Morse code) via general alarm and ship horn.

  • Emergency training & drills

Emergency training

This regulation applies to all ships. This regulation applied for the crew members of ships familiar with safety installation and practice muster well. While emergency training situation every crew member with assigned emergency duties shall be familiar with these duties before the voyage begin.

When ship engaged on a voyage where passenger are schedule to be on board for more than 24 hour, and muster all the crew shall take place within 24 hour after embarkation. Crew shall be instructed in the use of the lifejacket and the action to take in an emergency.

Drill

This practice shall be practice as far as practicable as actual emergency will happen. Every crew member shall participate in at least one (1) abandon ship drill and one (1) fire drill every month. The drill shall take place within 24 hour of the ship leaving a port if more than 25% of the crew has not participated in abandon ship and fire drills on board that particular ship in the previous month.

When ship enter service for first time, after modification of a major character or when a new crew engaged, these drills shall be held before sailing.

Each new and senior crew members must be given instructions on the following subjects:

  1. Operation and use of the ship’s inflatable life rafts.
  2. Problem of hypothermia, first-aid treatment of hypothermia and other appropriate first-aid procedure.
  3. Special instructions necessary for use of the ship’s life saving appliances in severe weather and severe sea conditions.
