1.1.4 India’s abundant Natural Resources

“Indian enjoys a prominent position as a producer of various agricultural and mineral raw materials. In the production of oilseeds like groundnuts, linseed and copra, India occupies the most important position in the world. India has about a third of the world’s cattle population and produces the largest quantity of milk and cattle hides in the world. India is the second largest producer of raw materials like cotton and the largest producer of raw jute in the world. India’s forest resources are also considerable and India is one of the leading producers of timber in the world. All these augur well for the development of agro-based and forest based industries in the country.
