Practical utility of vernalization

    1. Vernalization shortens the vegetative period of plants
    2. Vernalization increases the cold resistance of the plants
    • In colder countries like Russia, wherein the winters are severe, vernalization has been of great importance in agriculture.
    • By this process certain crop plants could be made to escape the harmful effects of severe winters, thus improving the crop production.
    • In warmer countries like India vernalization practice has not been in use mainly because it’s a costly process and winters are comparatively not very serve as to harm the crop plants.
