Practical utility of vernalization
|
- Vernalization shortens the vegetative period of plants
- Vernalization increases the cold resistance of the plants
- In colder countries like Russia, wherein the winters are severe, vernalization has been of great importance in agriculture.
- By this process certain crop plants could be made to escape the harmful effects of severe winters, thus improving the crop production.
- In warmer countries like India vernalization practice has not been in use mainly because it’s a costly process and winters are comparatively not very serve as to harm the crop plants.
