    Pink disease
    • Causal organism: Pellicularia salmonicolor
    Symptoms
    • The first visible symptom is the appearance of salmon pink encrustation of fruiting bodies of the fungus on the bark of the stem.
    Etiology
    • The mycelium of the fungus is hyaline, thin walled and sparsely septate; hyphae are 7-15µm in diameter and the asexual spores are is hyaline.
    Management
    • Avoid inter cropping with areca
    • Proper spacing should be given.
    • The disease is controlled by reducing over head shade, proper pruning should be given to improve aeration inside the garden.
    • Painting the cut ends with Bordeaux paste and regularly spraying the trees with Bordeaux mixture (1%) during rainy season are effective.
