5. Leaf Roller: Sylepta lunalis (Pyraustidae: Lepidoptera)
Distribution and status: Southern India and Punjab
Host range: Grapevine and eleven different species of family vitaceae
Damage symptoms
Young caterpillars feed on the lower epidermis of the leaves and skeletonize them. The grown up larvae roll up the leaf margins towards the mid rib with one caterpillar in each roll.
Bionomics
Adults are dirty brown with white spots on the fore and hind wings. Adult lays 98 -120 eggs creamy white oval eggs. Egg period 2- 3 days, tiny dirty green larva pupates for 6-7 days inside the leaf rolls.
Management
Remove the rolled up leaves and destroy them
Spray endosulfan 35 EC 1.25 L or malathion 50 EC 1.25 L in 500 -1000L of water/ha. |
