Magnitude of Disabilities

The magnitude of impairments, disabilities and handicaps has been estimated differently in different countries.

• WHO report - 5.21 per cent of population of developing countries is disabled.
• Approximately 50 million people in India. The first sample surveys covering specific pockets in India has estimated 16.15 million affected with one or the other of four major disabilities. viz visual, hearing, locomotors or mental handicap.
