Labelling or Classifying

Benefits:

  3. Labelling helps professionals to communicate with one another and to classify and assess research findings.
  4. To promote specific programmes and spur legislative action

Disadvantages:

  • The focus is on negative aspects of the child causing others to think only in terms of inadequacies and defects.
  • Labeled child may develop a poor self concept.
  • Peers might reject or ridicule the labeled child.
