Torrance test of creativity

Creativity tests usually measure divergent thinking ability. The Torrance test of creativity is one such test which can be used in primary and secondary schools. This test was developed by Ellis Paul Torrance, an American psychologist in 2003. This test uses benchmarking to measure creativity. The full test involves simple tests of divergent and lateral thinking and other problem solving skills. They were scored on four things: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration.

  • Fluency. The total number of interpretable, meaningful and relevant ideas generated in response to the stimulus.
  • Originality. Statistically very rare responses among the test subjects.
  • Elaboration. The amount of detail answering in the responses.

It consists of verbal tests with non-verbal and verbal stimuli and figural tasks and measures fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. Some of the tests are given below

  1. Verbal test
  2. Figural test
