Verbal test

  1. Ask and Guess: Give a sketch and instruct a child to
    • Ask all the questions needed to know exactly what is happening in the drawing.
    • Guess as many causes as possible for the action in the picture.
    • Guess possible consequences of what is taking place in the picture.
  2. Product improvement: In this task present a picture of a stuffed animal and provide 10 min to the child. Ask the child to list, “the cleverest, most interesting and unusual ways” they can think for changing or improving the toy to make it more fun to play, regardless of the cost for example toy monkey.
  3. Unusual uses: The child is given 10 min to list “interesting and unusual uses” for a common object, such as empty tin, can or a cardboard box.
  4. Just suppose: Here, the child is asked to guess what would happen if a certain situation occurred. Five min are allowed for the test. eg: “Just suppose clouds had strings attached to them which hang to earth”. What would happen? “Just suppose ice-creams are produced on the plants instead of leaves”. What would happen?
  5. Consequences: The subject is asked to write as many as answers they can in regard to what might happen as a result of what is happening or shown in the picture. Thus the person has to note the consequences of the happening for future time.
