Factors for language development

For language acquisition, a child must be exposed to a great deal of language of a standard quality to be able to learn the same. For instance, it is believed that the child of a talkative mother talks more. Therefore, factors that facilitate language development are:

  • Parental interactions: Constant interaction of the educated and interested parents and family members with the child by spending time talking with the child, telling stories helps in development of language.
  • Educational and stimulating play material: Availability of books, pictures, magazines, toys and stimulating play material, playing with other children influence the development of language in children.
  • Opportunities for excursions: Opportunities for excursions and outings to a variety of places facilitate the child’s interactions with different people in their environment.
  • Exposure to Audiovisual aids: Exposure to television, audio-visual aids, puppet play, films and other plays help the child to develop their language skills.
  • ECE teacher with good speech: Preschool teacher serves as a role model to the children. A teacher with good speech helps children to gain good communication skills.
