Language activities

  • Stories: It captures the attention of children and provides enjoyment and relaxation. In addition, stories provide information, teach new words and concepts and encourages appreciation for literature in children.
  • Rhymes/Songs/Poetry: Rhymes are enjoyed by children as they involve variety of subject matter, speech movement, repetition and sensory experiences.
  • Dramatic play: Offers opportunities for socialization, release of feelings and creative thinking and problem solving besides talking and listening.
  • Dramatization: It is more sophisticated and formal than dramatic play. It is planned by the teacher but acted and played out by the children. It offers language stimulation, story, and rhyme and a situation or an event can be dramatized.
  • Puppets: Offers more opportunities for both speaking and listening. They can be used in unstructured situations such as free discussions, story, and rhymes and in many situations.
