Transformational Curriculum

The transformational curriculum model was proposed by Rosegrant and Bredekamp (1992). The transformations or changes are twofold. The curriculum is transformed in response to the developmental needs and interests of the child and the child is transformed as a result of the curriculum. This model is based on ‘meaning-centered, integrated, mindful curriculum’ that builds on-

  1. Child development knowledge in all domains (whole child focus).
  2. Individual developmental continuum of each child in the group that involves realistic development of learning goals that provides a flexible framework for instruction (in both grade level and developmental stage level).
  3. Conceptual organizers, the glue that makes the curriculum integrated, meaningful and relevant.
  4. Disciplines or subject areas that ensure the curriculum has not only intellectual integrity but also depth and breadt
