Behavioural Perspectives on Personality

  • The fundamental assumption of behavioral perspective is that the characteristics of individual’s result from external events and reinforcement.
  • As a result of external forces, people learn specific patterns of behavior and when the behavior meets with acceptance and success it is reinforced.
  • People may not show consistent behavior. They may learn from different situations. Though behaviors learnt in early years may continue, personality is not stable.
  • People can have new experiences and learn new behavior that might change their personality.
