Tropical sprue

  • It is a chronic small bowel disorder of unknown etiology
  • Occurs in tropical areas
  • Excess concentration of PUFA in intestinal lumen stimulates the growth of coliform bacteria
  • Folate deficiency further helps in perpetuating the abnormalities

Symptoms

  • Diarrhoea
  • Anorexia
  • Abdominal distension
